DEXTER HAS CROSSED TO RAINBOW BRIDGE

On July 14, 2009 Dexter found his way into the front yard of my home and sometime late in the evening a couple dogs attacked and killed him.  He is now free from his disability and happily galloping across rainbow bridge, once again whole and without disability.  He was loved more than life itself and he will be terribly missed.  God speed to this precious miracle of a life!  We love you Dexter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Below is the start of his web page from 5 to 6 years ago.  Enjoy his story if you wish to read it...it was a tragic ending to such a precious life.  He taught me so many things about what I will do and how far I will go to care for those less fortunate.  He was well worth it and I would do it all over again.  One of a kind....

DEXTER'S STORY

Hi - I'm Dexter, A Handicapped Homeless Cat.  I am not able to operate my rear legs properly.  I had a huge large open wound on my hindquarters and all my friends and family and strangers came to my rescue to help me get the medical care I needed.  I am part of a colony of ferals cared for by my humom Tami.  Updates on Dexter and his progress are at the end of the story.  Currently a wonderful person, Terry Peres, is building Dexter's enclosure for no charge.  The only costs for building this enclosure are for materials.  The enclosure will be 10 foot by 16 foot and have a room in the back that is 10 foot by 6 foot.  There will be a roof and sides made of screen and hardware cloth.  Inside we will wire for a fan and some security lighting.  I also hope to put up a chain link fence around the perimeter of the enclosure in order to provide an outside area for Dexter to safely roam in the bushes and grass.  Sort of a sanctuary if you will.  We will need to put in a couple cat trees and shelves for him to sit on and some nice soft flooring and a couple cozy beds for him.  It is my dream for him.  He is extremely feral and will not allow anyone to touch him so we need a space in order to allow him to feel safe.  I think this design is perfect for him and will protect his feet from being injured anymore and provide a safe haven for him.  I estimate that this will cost around $1500.00 to complete - materials, fencing, lighting, wiring, fans, and greenery. I will put my other colony members into the enclosure so that Dexter has company.  His new house mates will be Mocha and Bleu.   If you would like to donate towards this new home for Dexter click the link below.  I will email updates on Dexter and the progress of his new enclosure.  I have pictures that I will be uploading soon.  Thank you so much for reading his story and sharing in his life.  With kindest regards, Tami

Dexter is finally home in his new enclosure!  Click here to see Dexter's new home!  Total cost $1764.00.  The name of Dexter's new home will be called Dexter's Peres Retreat - named after the person who built the enclosure. Thank you Terry & Carolyn Peres!!!!!!

Below are some more photos of Dexter so you can see his handicap and how handsome he is.  Dexter is in the first three pictures and Puddin his buddy is in the last one.  You can see in the first
picture below how his back leg curls backwards.  That is his handicap and both legs do this causing some pressure wounds to form.  We hope to be able to fix those up so they aren't so sore and hopefully in a new enclosure they will be protected better.  Also below the list of updates are pictures of Dexter post op/post treatment.  To see what Dexter's horrible wound looked like before treatment - Click here - PLEASE NOTE:  THESE PICTURES MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR ALL VIEWERS - VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED.  Dexter was on pain meds for his injury since day one!
