September 3, 2005 Update from me: The day I was leaving for my follow up Dr. appt. at Shands, Kathleen, the lady currently fostering Dexter, called to let me know that Dexter was not eating or drinking or going to the bathroom. Needless to say I was scared he was going to die. Kathleen took him to the vet as soon as she could and they anesthetized him and clean him out in case it was constipation that was causing the problem. They said he was dehydrated as well and gave him fluids and meds. She took him home but he still refused to eat for a couple more days. Kathleen planned on taking him back to the vet again but lo and behold he decided to eat and drink and go to the bathroom - guess he heard us discussing a return trip to the vet huh? Anyway, he seems to be better now. Paws crossed. The enclosure is still a work in progress. The base floor and 3 sides are framed now. It will take some time before it's completed because the man that is building it has to work full time, not to mention the heat is awful now. It's best for Dexter to stay in the air condition in a large dog cage for now anyway. Especially since it will take time to adjust to the heat. We will have to wait until the enclosure is finished, the fencing is put up, plants are planted and the weather is cooler before bringing him home. I have not seen him since I'm not supposed to drive still. Kathleen keeps me updated though so I know what is going on with him. I miss him terribly and can't wait to see him again. Soon I hope. His buddy Puddin no longer comes around. I'm not sure why. Perhaps she finds the food at the house across the street better than what I offer. I just don't know. I have caught a glimpse of her, at least I think it is her, from time to time at the house I originally saw them hanging out at. So, I am assuming she is okay. Bleu and Mocha still come for food and we have a new addition that is showing up now. That one I have not named yet. I will most likely keep all of them in the enclosed area so that they are all safe from cars and harm. I'll update the page with pics of the enclosure soon. Until then, take care everyone. Paw Hugs to you all! |
